Modeling the impact of climate change on hydrological responses in the Lake Tana basin, Ethiopia

Quantifying the impact of climate change on spatial and temporal hydrological processes is important for integrated water resource management. This study aimed to investigate impacts variability streamflow evapotranspiration in Lake Tana basin, Ethiopia. Climate data was simulated using Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, with a 4-km horizontal resolution. Dynamically downscaled baseline (2005–2015) future period (2045–2055) under two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP4.5 RCP8.5) were analyzed. The SWAT model calibrated validated observed data. used estimate hydrology bias-corrected On average, annual rainfall may increase by 7.9% 21.2% RCP4.5 RCP8.5 scenarios, respectively. average temperature rise 1.4 °C 2.2 RCP8.5. scenarios cause 7.2% 33% 11.2% 15.2%, findings provide valuable insights implement appropriate management strategies mitigate adapt negative basin other regions which have similar agro-ecology.
